Albuquerque, NM — Thousands of protesters braved the frigid temperatures and biting winds in downtown Albuquerque yesterday to attend one of the 1,300 Hands Off rallies held nationwide on April 5th. The protest attracted a diverse crowd from across New Mexico, all united in their message and equipped with signs advocating against the recent federal administrative changes.
The rally took place at Civic Plaza, where numerous speakers took to the stage to voice their support. Among them were Mayor Tim Keller, who discussed the importance of community action; City Councilor Nichole Rogers, who emphasized local efforts and policies; and Attorney General Raul Torrez, who highlighted legal protections. Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard, while Albuquerque Teachers Federation President Ellen Bernstein advocated for the rights and needs of educators and students through uncertain times.
Many other local organizations and community leaders also participated.
